This painting draws inspiration from Abstract Expressionism, particularly the bold black brushstrokes of calligraphy art and the colour-field tension of  artists like Mark Rothko, but re-imagines them with a contemporary urban sensibility. The heavy impasto and colliding blocks of black suggests dark silhouettes grounded against a weathered turquoise sky, with sudden flashes of magenta, ochre, and green that feel like memories of a landscape breaking through.
